Omer Ayub Khan was born on January 26, 1970. He is now a Pakistani politician and is actively working as an opposition leader. During Imran Khan’s government, he served as a member of the Federal Cabinet from April 2021 to April 2022 as the Minister of Economic Affairs.
Previously, from September 11, 2018, to April 16, 2021, he worked as the Federal Minister for Energy. He has been a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan from August 2018 to January 2023.
He is the grandson of a former President and the son of Gohar Ayub Khan, who was also a politician. Gohar Ayub Khan served in the National Assembly from 2002 to 2007 and again from 2014 to 2015. Additionally, Omer Ayub Khan served as the Minister of State for Finance in the Federal Cabinet from 2004 to 2007.
From May 27, 2023, to June 27, 2024, he served as the General Secretary of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
In Islamabad, within Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), there is a position that is considered weak among the party’s top leaders who expressed confidence and responded to Omer Ayub’s previous roles and accomplishments.
During a PTI meeting in the Parliamentary Party, unanimous confidence was expressed in Ayub Khan under the leadership of the opposition in Pakistan’s National Assembly, as reported in the local daily.
The Parliamentary Party unanimously resolved that his resignation should not be accepted and that he should be directly appointed as the party’s General Secretary.
This issue is being discussed within PTI circles.
Press reports have released information that PTI Chairman Imran Khan has accepted Ayub Khan’s resignation several days ago. It has come to light that supporters and Imran Khan will not accept Ayub Khan’s resignation.
Ayub submitted his resignation on June 22 due to increased responsibilities and burdens on PTI, leading to this decision. He also mentioned in his resignation that it is not possible for him to handle the roles of General Secretary, opposition leader, and National Assembly simultaneously.
“I am grateful to all members and the PTI family, as well as the organization’s office holders who have worked courageously and diligently under the leadership of former Prime Minister Imran Khan and PTI.”
